Qualifier Maddison Inglis has made it to the Australian Open fourth round, where she is set to take on second seed Iga Swiatek. The two have met once before, but never at a major, and below is our prediction for their second match.

Maddison Inglis is having her best-ever run at a major. Before arriving at this year’s edition, the Australian had never won more than two fixtures at a Grand Slam tournament. She has made it to the second week through her own doing and a bit of luck.

Inglis, who is unbeaten in 2026 with five wins, progressed to this round after Naomi Osaka pulled out of their third-round duel. The 28-year-old’s last fixture was an exciting three-set battle with Laura Siegemund that lasted three hours and 23 minutes.

Inglis has shot up a massive 55 places to 113th in the live ranking.

Iga Swiatek defeated Inglis in their only previous encounter. That was six years ago, on her way to lifting the 2021 Adelaide title. She won in straight sets in the second round.

The Pole will hope for a similar outcome as she seeks to inch closer to completing a career Grand Slam. Swiatek is a six-time major champion but has surprisingly never been victorious in Melbourne, falling twice in the semi-finals.

The world number two, who has won six of eight matches in 2026, advanced to week two thanks to a 2-1 victory over Anna Kalinskaya.
