The round of 32 at the 2025 Winston-Salem Open will see Mackenzie McDonald take on Luciano Darderi in midweek. McDonald and Darderi are 102nd and 34th, respectively, according to the ATP live rankings. Let’s get into the match prediction.

Mackenzie McDonald secured his entry to the second round of this competition by beating compatriot Brandon Holt in an entertaining three-set battle 6-4, 6-7(2), 7-6(2) on Sunday.

That result followed a first-round elimination against Corentin Moutet in straight sets in Cincinnati and second-round exits at the Citi DC Open and Canadian Open. 

The American’s record now stands at 25-20 this season and 13-9 on the hard court. He also reached the San Diego Challenger final against Eliot Spizzirri back in February. 

Meanwhile, Luciano Darderi is entering this competition as the number three seed after being forced to retire injured against Francisco Comesana in Cincinnati earlier this month. 

Prior to that, the Italian enjoyed an excellent clay swing, during which he went unbeaten in nine matches and clinched back-to-back titles in Bastan and Umag last month. 

Darderi favours the clay where he is 25-11 this year and has struggled massively on the hard (1-6). He also lost to this opponent on this surface in Mexico in 2023.
