24th seed Elise Mertens takes on French wild card Lois Boisson in the first round at Roland Garros. The winner of this match will face either Elina Avanesyan or Anhelina Kalinina in round two of this outdoor clay court Grand Slam. Here's our match prediction. 

Elise Mertens is the world number 24 and in eight times in the Roland Garros main draw has always reached at least round three. Her best in this Grand Slam is getting to the fourth round on three occasions, most recently 2023.

The 29-year-old has won six of her ten matches played on clay this year. Her best performance has been a quarter-final in Stuttgart. Mertens also made it to round four in Rome and had a big win over Jessica Pegula.

Lois Boisson is down at 361st in the rankings but was 152nd last year. The French player received a wild card to play in her home Grand Slam. This is her first time in the main draw after failing to qualify in each of the past three years with just one win.

Last week saw her win the ITF tournament played in Saint-Gaudens. Her only WTA Tour event this year ended with a second round defeat. We tip Mertens to win this match in straight sets.
