Liverpool - Atalanta: Form Analysis
Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool surrendered top spot in the league at the weekend when only able to draw 2-2 away to Manchester United at Old Trafford. They remain locked level on points with Arsenal but with a worse goal difference and one point ahead of Man City in third. The Reds are unbeaten at home in the Europa League this season, winning all four of their games at Anfield, the last by a 6-1 scoreline over Sparta Prague. However, they have been beaten twice on their travels (by Toulouse, and Union St. Gilloise). The Reds have lost one of their last 13 (an FA Cup Quarter Final defeat to Man Utd) and came through their previous tie 11-2 on aggregate against Sparta Prague.
Atalanta come into this game on the back of two straight defeats, losing 1-0 at Fiorentina in the Coppa Italia semi-final in last midweek and then a 2-1 defeat at Cagliari at the weekend. Gian Piero Gasperini's team have had a somewhat inconsistent season so far domestically but have been solid in Europe, topping Group D unbeaten with four wins and two draws from their six games and then defeating Sporting Lisbon 3-2 over two legs to reach the quarterfinals. They lie sixth in Serie A with 50 points from 30 games but have managed just one win in their last five in that competition, losing three of those games.

Liverpool & Atalanta Squad Analysis
Liverpool are slowly starting to see a number of their injured players either return to action, or are close to being able to play. The game will come a little too soon for Alisson, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Diogo Jota, who could all be in contention for the return leg next week (although the league game after is more likely). Thiago and Joel Matip are both long term absentees and it is still a little too soon for young midfielder Stefan Bajcetic too. Curtis Jones however has made a return from injury and French defender Ibrahima Konate could be in for a recall alongside Virgil van Dijk in the center of Liverpool's defence. Mo Salah's goalscoring form has been excellent, but it is the performance of Alexis Mac Allister in the center of midfield in recent games which have been the highlight for Reds fans.
Atalanta will be without injured center back Giorgio Scalvini, who has a hamstring issue and isn't due back until early May. The Bergamoans will also be without two experienced players due to suspension, with defensive midfielder Marten de Roon and right midfielder Davide Zappacosta both suspended from the first leg at Anfield. Ex-West Ham striker Gianluca Scamacca has scored three goals in six Europa League games for Atalanta this season, while midfielder Teun Koopmeiners is believed to be an end of season target for Liverpool, who will get a chance to view him up close in the game this week.
