China’s Liang Weikeng and Wang Chang will take on the Chinese Taipei duo of Wang Chi-lin and Lee Yang in the Olympics Badminton Men's Doubles Final on Sunday afternoon. Weikeng and Chang are the current number one seeds while Chi-lin and Yang are seeded 12th. Let’s jump into the match prediction for this gold medal encounter.
Weikeng and Chang have been flawless in Paris this year as they came through the group stages with a perfect record, notching up wins over Chia/ Soh, Dong/ Yakura and Great Britain duo Lane/ Vendy.
The only real challenge they faced during the group was against the British duo, who won the second set 21-13 but lost the third (and the match) 21-14.
In a close quarter-final, the top seeds got past Polish challengers Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Rian 24-22 and 22-20 before a titanic battle with Malaysia’s Soh Wooi Yik and Aaron Chia that went to a thrilling final set (21-19, 15-21, 21-17).
Meanwhile, Lee Yang and Wang Chi-lin secured their place in an Olympic final for a second year in a row beating second-ranked duo in the world, Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen of Denmark, 18-21, 21-17, 21-10.
That followed a straight-set victory over Kedren and Jomkoh in the quarter-final and an unbeaten group stage which featured four matches as opposed to three like the other groups.
