Lazio will welcome Atletico Madrid in a high-profile Group E clash to start their UEFA Champions League journeys on Tuesday. Lazio are returning to this stage for the first time since 2021, hoping to stun regulars Atletico Madrid. For the hosts, this should be a different experience having in recent seasons played in the Europa League and Conference League. They finished second in Serie A last year, reaping from a strong finishing run. Their start to the current season has however not been inspiring. Lazio are coming from a 3-1 defeat to Juventus, which has them on three points off four league matches. They will come here seeking stability after suffering three losses in four games. This loss came off the back of a 7-0 win over Rayo Vallecano and had scored 12 goals by then. The Valencia loss was the second time in three matches that they failed to score. Atletico will hope their experience in this competition lifts them here. Last season, however, they performed dismally, and fell off at the group stage. They come into this game without a win in the last five matches in the Champions League. Four times in those five matches, they conceded two goals. Meanwhile, Atletico failed to score in three of their last five Champions League matches. Their away run in the competition isn’t great either. They suffered straight losses in each of the last four.
