Lucky loser Denis Kudla faces Radu Albot in the first round of the Dallas Open. The winner will be up against either seventh seed Jordan Thompson or wild card Adam Neff in round two. Kudla didn't expect to be in this position after losing to Nicolas Moreno de Alboran in the final qualifying round. He lost that in three sets, winning the middle one played. Kudla was ranked 174th at the start of his hard court tournament. He's now 167th in the live list but that's way below the career high of 53rd he was in eight years ago. The American lost in the second qualifying round of this year's Australian Open but then reached the last four of the Challenger Tour event held in Cleveland.

Radu Albot was ranked 39th in 2019 but has slipped to 137th in the latest list released this week. The Moldovan is up to 136th in the live rankings but is yet to win a match on the ATP Tour this year. He began this year with a loss in his first match in a Challenger Tour tournament held in Canberra. His poor start to 2024 continued with a first qualifying round defeat in the Australian Open. His most recent tournament was another Challenger Tour event but this time on clay in Uruguay. He finally won a couple of matches but lost in the quarter finals to Marco Cecchinato who was ranked 216th at the time. We tip Kudla to get the victory.
