Matchday 31 in the Japanese J1 League sees leaders Kashima Antlers playing host to ninth-placed Cerezo Osaka on Tuesday. Will Antlers be able to extend their lead atop the standings or will Sakura prove to be a roadblock? Check out our match prediction below!

Despite not being at their best, Kashima were able to secure a huge three points at a very difficult venue when they beat Urawa Reds 1-0 on Saturday. The result saw the hosts leapfrog  Kyoto to take the top spot after their title rivals slipped up with a 1-0 loss at home.

Kashima’s victory extended their unbeaten run in the J1 League to six games, four of which ended in victory. While it was an important result, Kashima can’t afford to take their foot off the gas. They now hold a slim three-point lead over second-place Kyoto.

Cerezo played well against Kashiwa Reysol and were unlucky not to walk away with the three points. They created 1.84 expected goals and five clear cut chances to Reysol’s 0.96 xG and two big chances.

They ultimately had to settle for a point in a 1-1 draw at home, although the result did extend their unbeaten run to four games overall. Cerezo have had a tough time getting over the line as three of those four ended in stalemates.
