The Beijing Open 13th seed Karolina Muchova is set to start her race in China with a match against Sorana Cirstea. These two meet in the second round, facing off for the eighth time in their careers. Let’s have a look at the prediction here.

Muchova is looking to go one better after falling at the final in the 2024 edition. The Czech is coming straight off the US Open quarter-final and looks to do better in a season affected by injury.

She arrives here sitting 21st in the live rank and has compiled a 20-13 record for the season. Muchova has had to miss up to two months of 2025 with injury, but she seems to be going back to her best.

Cirstea recently won her first title this season, in Cleveland, and third overall. At 35, she doesn’t have many more years ahead at this level and will understandably want to make the most of such opportunities.

This is her eighth appearance in Beijing, and in the previous seven, she only managed to go past the second round once. That was in 2017, when she reached the quarter-finals.

Heading into this match, Cirstea has a 5-5 record in second-round matches, while she trails 6-1 in head-to-head numbers against Muchova.

Cirstea, who has won at least a set in nine of her last 10 matches, will hope to shock Muchova, who has lost at least one set in each of her last six matches.
