Ann Li and Jessica Pegula will meet for the second time at a Grand Slam this year when they meet at the US Open. The two will face off in the fourth round to mark their third meeting in history. Taylor Townsend or Barbora Krejcikova awaits in the next round, and here’s our match prediction.

Pegula is on course in her ambition of at least reaching the final for the second straight season. In the last round she came out unscathed, beating Victoria Azarenka.

The American has won in straight sets all her matches here, the fourth seed improving massively on her pre-tournament form of four losses in six games. Now she’s on a 40-16 record and is 10th in the live rank.

This fixture stands at 1-1 from the previous meetings, the latest of which was this year at the French Open. Li lost that one and will be here seeking revenge and a second win against Pegula.

In this all-American affair, Li will have the disadvantage of having spent one hour more on the court than Pegula. Her run in the season is also inferior, with the third-round win against Priscila Hon only getting her record to 26-20.

However, she is in a record 42nd place in the live rankings after reaching the fourth round at Flushing Meadows for the first time ever.
