Giro - Stage 9 Predictions & Betting tips - Giro d'Italia
by Matthew Newman |
The Giro d'Italia heads to Tuscany for Stage 9 and parts of the famous white roads used for the Strade Bianche. Almost half of the final 70km will be ridden on the gravel which means those with a strong record in the one-day contest are those to concentrate on for our prediction.
Tom Pidcock is the man who immediately jumps out. The Strade Bianche winner in 2023, he finished fourth in 2024 and was second this year. This will be the stage he has ringed as the best opportunity to win.
The similarity to the spring contest would normally make Wout van Aert a contender. He has not been close to the best of his form so far in the Giro but he still needs to be respected.
Pello Bilbao showed up well for a long time in Saturday's Stage 8. He spent a long time trying to get into a breakaway and then just got shelled out in the final 15km by the peloton. Easing off and coming home in his own time should give him extra energy here. He has finished in the top 10 in all four of his Strade Bianche attempts.
Two Italian riders to consider are Davide Formolo and Filippo Zana. Both of them have top 10 finishes at the Strade Bianche to their credit so have shown form on the terrain.
