Giro - Stage 17 Predictions & Betting tips - Giro d'Italia
by Matthew Newman |
Stage 17 of the Giro has three climbs, a Cat 1, Cat 2 and a Cat 3. The start of the stage is a steady climb into the Cat 2 with the Cat 1 coming up immediately after the descent. The last 10 km are downhill so it might be a breakaway stage which always makes for an interesting stage for a prediction.
That means that the likes of Romain Bardet will be on the attack again along with Lorenzo Fortunato who will be desperate to add to his King of the Mountains points.
There will be plenty of other attacking riders who will be looking to get into the mix so expect Pello Bilbao and Wout Poels to be up there early on trying to gain an advantage as well as whoever gets the nod from the Jayco team, whether that's Filippo Zana again or another of his teammates.
Davide Piganzoli hails from Morbegno, about 55 miles from the stage finish so this is a home stage for him. He has shown up well in the mountain stages so far and if there is a stage where he will want to attack, it will be this one.

Giro - Stage 17 - Giro d'Italia prediction key points
- Stage 17 is only 155km in length, finishing in Bormeo.
- Although there is only one official climb in the first 70 km of this stage, the road is a steady drag upwards the entire way.
- This has the look of a potential breakaway stage. Davide Piganzoli went away in two breaks in the second half of the 2024 Giro, he has kept his powder dry so far in 2025.
- Hailing from just 55 miles away, this will be the stage that Piganzoli will have set his stall out to win.
