Giro - Stage 15 Predictions & Betting tips - Giro d'Italia

At 219 km, Stage 15 is the second longest in the Giro and the final stage before the race heads into the high mountains after the third rest day on Monday. This is a stage where the first half is almost flat and then there is a Cat One and a Cat Two in the second half to consider ahead of our prediction.

A flat finish suggests this will not be a day, the general classification front runners will have an eye on winning, so breakaway riders look the way to go.

It's been a modest Giro so far for Arkea B&B so they will be looking to get a rider in the break. Perhaps it will be Embret Svestad-Bardseng who has been gradually working his way up the leaderboard. He is just 22 and riding his first Grand Tour and while not a regular rider in a breakaway, his best chance of a higher GC finish is an attack here.

Romain Bardet on his final Grand Tour will be liable to want to get up the road again in his bid for one more stage win. He will be desperate to get into the right break as will Lorenzo Fortunato with the Astana man currently leading the King of the Mountains classification.

Twice Luke Plapp has been on the attack, winning Stage 8. The GC men had his measure on Stage 11 but he is an excellent time triallist and the flat finish here could be perfect.

Only Stage 6 is longer than the 219 km of Stage 15.
There are two major climbs in the second half of the stage including a Cat One which is more than 25 kms long.
Luke Plapp has been part of two breakways so far in the Giro and this looks a stage for the break.
Plapp won Stage 8, too strong for his fellow riders in the break and this long flat run in should set up well for him.

This looks the right sort of stage for a breakaway to stay away from the peloton and with a big climb halfway though and a flat finish it could be another day where Luke Plapp goes on the attack. He showed that he is a smart climber in Stage 8 and he is a solid time triallist which is going to be a plus for the long, flat run to the line.
