Giro - Stage 12 Predictions & Betting tips - Giro d'Italia
by Matthew Newman |
A pair of Cat Three climbs and a long flat run to the finish should mean that Stage 12 will be one for the quicker men. With the third week of the Giro heading into the big mountains, our prediction is for this to be hotly contested while the quick men have the opportunity!
Perhaps the key to the stage will be whether Team Visma can get Olav Kooij over the early climbs in one piece. He was bested by Casper van Uden on the stage into Lecce earlier on in the Giro and that will have been frustrating for him.
Van Uden could be a man to note here as well after that stage win but he was well out of things on the stage to Napoli won by Kaden Groves. That stage was neutralised for a while, after poor conditions, saw riders on the floor, but we know Groves to be an excellent sprinter.
A day with some tricky climbs ahead of a sprint has suited Mads Pedersen so far in the Giro. It will be very interesting to see if it is him team on the front early to make it as hard as possible.
At a bigger price, one to consider is Maikel Zijlaard. The Tudor rider has finished in third and sixth in the two genuine sprinter stages so far so can be in the mix again.

- Although Olav Kooij is the most natural sprinter, he has already been beaten in the two stages that were set up to suit him.
