The top two teams in Group F, Gambia and Mali meet at the Limbe Stadium. Both teams recorded 1-0 victories in their opening group games. Gambia won against Mauritania with an early goal and held out for the victory. It was only their second win in their last five matches. Gambia are an all or nothing team as they either win or lose and have not had a draw in their last 12 matches. They have failed to win against Mali in their previous two meetings with a win and a draw. Their clean sheet in the last match was their first in five matches. Prior to the last match they had conceded 13 goals in their last four matches at an average of 3.25 goals per match. They will find Mali to be much tougher opposition than any team that they have recently played as their last competitive match before AFCON was in March 2021.

Mali will be confident of advancing through to the next round after they overcame their fiercest group rival Tunisia in the first match. The match had a controversial end as the referee blew the final whistle before the 90 minutes were up. Mali know that a victory in this match will guarantee them progression to the knockout stage. They are unbeaten in their last seven matches, winning six with one draw. Mali had a very successful World Cup qualifying campaign where they topped their group by 7 points and booked their ticket to Qatar. They have been brilliant in defence and have gone seven matches without conceding a goal.
