Canadian Grand Prix Predictions & Betting tips - Formula 1
by Devesh Jaganath |
The 2024 Formula 1 season has reached the ninth round and we are set to head to the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal for the Canadian Grand Prix on Sunday evening. Max Verstappen currently leads the F1 driver standings with 169 points, ahead of Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc (138 points), while Lando Norris edged into third place last time out (113 points).
After an emphatic Monaco Grand Prix, where Charles Leclerc claimed his maiden home victory, Ferrari were expected by many pundits to be the quickest in Canada. However, they struggled in the final practice, with Leclerc finishing 11th and Carlos Sainz 12th. In a surprising final qualifying session, Mercedes reemerged from the ashes, with George Russell taking pole position for the Canadian Grand Prix, despite Red Bull’s Max Verstappen matching his qualifying time. Russell will start ahead of Verstappen because he set his time first. McLaren's Lando Norris was third-fastest, just 0.021 seconds away from pole, with teammate Oscar Piastri joining him on the second row in fourth. Daniel Ricciardo shone by securing fifth place, while Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso edged out Lewis Hamilton for sixth. Yuki Tsunoda, who will remain with Red Bull next season, finished eighth, ahead of Lance Stroll and Alex Albon.
For the second time in two days, Zhou Guanyu crashed his Sauber after losing control at the first chicane, spinning off the circuit and impacting the barriers rearwards, causing a red flag. Later, Alex Albon also inflicted significant damage to his car, hitting the Wall of Champions. Despite this, he completed 22 laps and finished 18th fastest. Sergio Perez failed to advance out of Q1 again after being pushed into the drop zone by Alex Albon. Despite recently signing a new contract with Red Bull, Perez has now failed to make it into Q2 on two consecutive occasions.

Our Canadian Grand Prix - Formula 1 prediction
Owing to George Russell’s qualifying performance, there is finally some value to be had at the books, as opposed to the usual short odds we’ve become used to seeing in recent times. Indeed, Max Verstappen is still the clear favourite, but the bookies seem to feel that the Red Bull driver could be challenged here, which, in fairness, is what any F1 fan is hoping for. However, it is worth noting that the weather played a major role in qualifying and with improved overhead conditions expected for the Canadian Grand Prix proper, we feel that if the Dutchman gets off the line cleanly, there will be no reeling him in. Our Canadian Grand Prix prediction: Max Verstappen to win the Canadian Grand Prix.
