U21 Euro 2025 presentation - Football

U21 Euro Prediction

The European Under-21 Championship is an official UEFA European competition that has been in existence since 1978.

It is played every two years, and this year (2025) will be the 25th edition. It brings together the 16 best youth teams (under 21, only players born after 1 January 2002 can take part) in Europe, and will be played this year in Slovakia from 11 to 28 June.

This is always an interesting competition for your football predictions, especially in a slack period like June!

U21 Euro 2025 Winner Prediction

We backed England to successfully defend their title from the outset and the Young Lions didn't let us down! England becomes the first team to win back-to-back U21 European championships since Spain in 2013 and they move up to third in the all-time rankings with four titles.

It was a match to remember and became just the second grand final in the last 20 years to go to extra time. England raced out to a two-goal lead after just 24 minutes but Germany proved their resiliency by battling back to tie things up at 2-2. England might have felt like the opportunity had passed them by, but the reigning champions kept their composure and scored what would prove to be the winning goal just two minutes into the extra time period. With there being a strong emphasis on youth development after a complete revamp, we could be looking at the start of a dynasty at the U21 level for the Young Lions.

Will they be able to emulate Italy's dominance in the 1990s and win a third straight title in the next edition? Check back in the future for our 2027 U21 European championship prediction!

Beginner Guide - how does the Champions U21 Euro work?

How does the U21 Euro work?

The 16 teams are divided into 4 groups of 4 nations, with a draw based on the hats. There's nothing unusual about the way this works compared with other competitions:

  • The 16 teams are divided into 4 groups of 4
  • Only the top two teams qualify for the quarter-finals
  • The bottom two teams in each group are eliminated from the competition

Each country plays 3 matches in the group phase, and reaches the quarter-finals only by finishing in one of the top two places in the standings. Since the knockout phase starts directly with the quarter-finals, there is no repechage of the best third-placed teams.

The winners of the quarter-finals go on to compete in the semi-finals. The competition ends on 28 June with the grand final, which crowns the European U21 champion team. As with the adult Euro, there is no third-place play-off (as there is at the World Cup or Nations League, for example).

Here are the key dates:

  • Group stage: 11 to 18 June
  • Quarter-finals: 21 and 22 June
  • Semi-finals: 25 June
  • Final: 28 June 2025

You now have all the key information you need about how this U21 Euro 2025 tournament will be organised and run.
