There's just pride to play for at Dens Park on Saturday as Dundee and Montrose meet in the final Scottish League Cup Group Stage match for both teams. With just three points each, neither the Dark Blues or the visiting Gable Enders, can qualify from their group with Alloa and Airdrie both having maximum points ahead of their clash today. What will our prediction be for this game, which will be key in getting teams prepared for the new league season?
Dundee finished 10th in the SPL last season amassing 41 points from 38 games, but they did conceded 77 goals, the most in the division.Montrose finished eighth in League One last season on 40 points from their 36 games.
It's fair to say that both teams have struggled for form in the League Cup. Dundee's sole win came against Bonnyrigg Rose, a 3-1 away win in their last game, but prior to that they had lost 1-0 at home to Airdrie and then 1-0 away to Alloa Athletic. Those results were surprising after Dundee had won two earlier friendlies 2-0 at Arbroath and then 3-0 away to Brechin.
Montrose kicked off their campaign with a 2-1 defeat to Alloa, but then beat Bonnyrigg Rose 4-1. However, in midweek, they were beaten 2-1 by Airdrie to confirm their elimination. The Mo were unbeaten in three friendlies prior to those games, drawing away to Forfar (1-1) and Civil Service Strollers (2-2), which bracketed a 2-0 win over Deveronvale.
