The first leg of the highly-anticipated CAF Champions League final is set to get underway on Saturday afternoon, with ES Tunis taking on Al Ahly at  Stade Olympique Hammadi Agrebi. The second and final leg of the competition will take place at the Cairo International Stadium on May 25 at 18:00 GMT. ES Tunis are looking to win Africa’s elite club competition for the first time since the 2018-19 season. The Ligue 1 side have delivered a mixed bag of results in the competition but have managed to find results when needed. They qualified second in their group with 11 points, one point behind Petro de Luanda, and were unable to overcome ASEC Mimosa in 180 minutes during the quarter-finals, eventually needing penalties to see them progress. In the semis, they were much better, though, beating South African PSL giants Mamelodi Sundowns 1-0 home and away to book their spot in the final. They now face Africa’s best team in Al Ahly, who knocked them out of this competition twice in the last three seasons, which sees them enter this contest as the underdogs. 

Meanwhile, Al Ahly have once again made it to the final of the CAF Champions League, marking their fifth consecutive season of appearing in this grand spectacle of African club football. They were unbeaten in the group stages, recording three wins and three draws in their six games before overcoming Simba 3-0 on aggregate in the quarter-finals last month. In the semi-final, the Red Devils were held to a goalless draw in the first leg by TP Mazembe, but they were far too good for the Congolese outfit in the return leg in Cairo, where they progressed with a commanding 3-0 victory. Al Ahly are the most successful club in this competition, lifting the title 11 times in their history, including in three of the last four editions. They have kept an incredible eight consecutive clean sheets in the tournament leading up to this match and are likely to prioritize the shutout here, which will put them in a very advantageous position for the second leg on their home patch next week.
