Equatorial Guinea host Gambia at the neutral venue of Marrakech Stadium in Morocco on Friday in an international friendly. This match is the first of the two friendlies for either team, and our prediction is under 2.5.
Equatorial Guinea are in the middle of a challenging World Cup qualification campaign where they remain fourth in Group H. They have a lot of ground to cover to at least make it to the second round, so getting some momentum could be crucial.
Although they don’t get back to qualifiers until September, Equatorial Guinea would do well to get a second win in seven matches (W1, D3, L2). Their lone previous encounter against Gambia ended in a 1-0 win for Equatorial Guinea, although it was back in 2011.
Gambia are in a tighter spot as far as World Cup qualifying is concerned, as they remain fifth in Group F and can’t qualify directly. Two draws and defeats each in their last four matches isn’t quite the momentum they would have perhaps wanted before this fixture.
It’s their scoring that could be the focus here, as Gambia failed to score in three games in a row. They will round off this window with another friendly against Uganda next week before resuming their World Cup qualification in September, as they aim for some momentum.
