Second seed Iga Swiatek and fifth seed Elena Rybakina will rekindle their rivalry when they match up next at the Australian Open. This will be the 12th career meeting between the two and their third at a major. Read on for our prediction of this match.

Rybakina ended a run of five consecutive losses against Swiatek when they met at last season’s WTA Finals. It was her fifth win against the Pole, and she will be confident of another victory to move a step closer to a second Slam title.

The world number five, who hasn’t dropped a set so far in Melbourne, lost just four games against Elise Mertens in the last round. Rybakina was an Australian Open finalist in 2023, beating Swiatek on her way to the championship match.

Iga Swiatek has won six times against Rybakina. She also won an exhibition match against the Kazakh as she prepared for this season.

The world number two, who has won six Grand Slam titles, is our best bet to progress to the next round. Swiatek dominated the qualifier Maddison Inglis in the fourth round and won 6-0, 6-3.

She has now won seven of nine matches in 2026. The 24-year-old is seeking to achieve a career Grand Slam at the end of the week.

This is the only Slam she has not yet conquered, losing twice in the semi-finals, including last season.
