Ninth seed Elena Rybakina is chasing a first-ever fourth-round appearance at the US Open. She is scheduled to face Emma Raducanu in the third round, marking their second career meeting. The winner will book Marketa Vondrousova or Jasmine Paolini, and below we have a prediction for this match.

Rybakina had her sticky moments in the second round but did the job in straight sets against Tereza Valentova. She has now equaled her best at Flushing Meadows, having reached the third round twice.

The winner in Strasbourg has also reached six semis this season, three of them in North America, which could be a good omen. The Kazakh, on a 43-16 run, comes here placed ninth in the live rankings. 

Raducanu, like Rybakina, is also a former Grand Slam winner, but hers was a storied victory. The Brit remains the only qualifier to have gone all the way to win a Grand Slam title when she clinched the 2021 US Open.

She has, however, failed to match that performance on her Flushing Meadows debut. In subsequent appearances (2021, 2022), her journey ended in the first round. She’s been fortunate with her draws this time, beating Ena Shibahara and Janice Tjen to book this slot.

Things get tougher from now on, with her last two Grand Slam appearances having ended in the third round. Her best this season was reaching the Washington semis and she’s 34th in the live rankings.
