Donna Vekic and Katerina Siniakova, both unseeded, will battle in the first round of the 2024 Qatar Open. The winner will then proceed to take on second seed Cori Gauff. Donna Vekic is coming off a semi-final finish in Linz. The Croat has started the season strongly and has so far compiled a 4-2 record. Two of her wins have come on hard courts. And having defeated Sinikova on the surface before, she will be confident of a winning start here. Vekic is returning to this WTA 1000 event after a four-year hiatus. This will be her fourth appearance and she will be hoping to go past the second round for the first time. Vekic’s success in Linz has propelled her six places in the live ranking and is currently placed at number 28.

Katerina Siniakova has returned to Doha for a seventh time. The Czech hasn’t had the best of times here and is still looking for her first main draw victory. As she has dominated this series with Vekic, the 27-year-old will be confident of a win here. Siniakova has defeated Vekic three of the four times they have met. Their last encounter however was back in 2019. Siniakova has had an inconsistent start to the season and has so far compiled a 5-4 record. She also participated in Linz in her last tournament where she exited in the second round. The majority of her victories, three, were achieved in Adelaide where as a qualifier she recorded a second-round finish. She is currently ranked 42nd in the live ranking after making a seven-place leap.
