Fourth seed Felix Auger-Aliassime makes his season debut in Auckland and will battle Daniel Altmaier in the second round. The winner of this first-ever meeting between the two will then play either Arthur Fils or Nuno Borges in the quarterfinals. Daniel Altmaier has had a promising start to the season and has won two of three matches. He defeated fellow unseeded player Marcos Giron in straight sets in the first round. It was his first win in what is his main draw debut in Auckland. The German began his season in Brisbane and won his first-round duel but was eliminated in the second round. He will be hoping this isn’t the case here. Altmaier, who is up six places to 51st in the live ranking, has struggled on hard courts in recent seasons. He has finished with a losing record on the surface in the last two campaigns.
Felix Auger-Aliassime is making his season debut. He will be hoping to start things off as he ended the previous campaign. Last season, Auger-Aliassime battled with injuries and missed a chunk of the campaign. This resulted in a dip in form and he finished the year having won just four more matches than the 19 he lost. He tumbled out of the top 10 and is currently ranked 27th in the ATP. But despite this, the Canadian managed to defend his title in Basel which was his only title of the season. Auger-Aliassime was last on the court at the start of November as he exited the Paris Masters in the second round. He is making his debut in Auckland.
