The Mavericks had a dominant campaign last season against their Texas rivals and won their first three meetings. They would end up making the postseason ahead of the Spurs despite a shaky campaign rocked by the Luka Doncic trade.

Jason Kidd’s men, who ended last season with a 39-43 record, had a decent preseason. They won three of four games, with number one draft pick Cooper Flagg showing flashes of what to expect this season. Dallas closed out their preps for the new campaign with a 121-94 victory over the Lakers.

The Spurs won their most recent meeting with the Mavericks to avoid a sweep in this series last season. They will hope for a similar outcome to set the tone for what is expected to be a much-improved season.

San Antonio made it six straight seasons without making the playoffs last season. The Spurs finished the campaign 13th in the West after losing 48 of their 82 games.

Injuries hampered Mitch Johnson’s side, with Victor Wembanyama and De’Aaron Fox among their notable absentees. Fox is still sidelined, though Wembanyama is back.

The Spurs had a splendid preseason and won all five of their duels, ending with a 133-104 victory over the Pacers.
