Palace may play in London and Brighton on the south coast, but there’s no love lost between these two clubs. This is one of the few times that supporters not being present is a godsend, especially for the local police force budget. Palace are 12th in the Premier League and that’s four places and three points above their opponents. The home side made a terrible end to last season, losing seven successive league games before a draw with Tottenham. This season started much better with a 1-0 home win over Southampton and then a shock 3-1 win at Manchester United. They did get knocked out of the EFL Cup by Championship side Bournemouth though. Their league form has dipped since that win at Old Trafford. They lost 2-1 at home to Everton and then got hammered 4-0 at Chelsea. Now they take on Brighton and that’s followed by a trip to struggling Fulham. Palace will be looking to get at least four points from these fixtures to kick-start their season. Six home league games have been lost in 2020 and nine out of 11 have seen under 2.5 goals scored. Only twice in their last 17 home league fixtures have they managed to score more than one goal.

Brighton and Hove Albion survived another season in the Premier League last season. They finished 15th in the table, seven points clear of the relegation zone. Only one of their last five league games last season ended in a Brighton win. This new campaign has also seen a shaky start for the Seagulls. It began with a home loss to Chelsea but then they went up to Newcastle and won 3-0. That appears to be a false dawn though as since then they have lost to both Manchester United (and again to them in the EFL Cup) and away at Everton. 10 goals have been conceded so far this season but they have scored eight of their own, four by Neal Maupay. Brighton had been unbeaten in eight away league games before the loss at Everton. Five of the last nine on the road have been drawn and a double chance bet on them looks a good one to make up against an inconsistent side such as Palace,
