Coventry City face Sheffield Wednesday in a pivotal FA Cup 4th Round Replay, with a home tie against non-league Maidstone United awaiting the winner in the 5th Round. The Sky Blues went down to a 2-1 defeat at Norwich City at the weekend, although Liam Kitching's sending off on 71st minutes heavily contributed to Borja Sainz's winner for the Canaries. That was Coventry's first loss in five games and they still remain in seventh place in the Championship table on 44 points. They have also tangled with these opponents three times in just over a month, winning both league games and then earning an FA Cup 4th Round draw at Hillsborough a couple of weeks back. Both teams have scored in all Coventry's last eight games, but the last opponent Mark Robin's team kept a clean sheet against was a 2-0 win over tonight's opposition in the league on Boxing Day. 

A run of three wins at the turn of the year seemed to indicate a better 2024 was on the cards for Sheffield Wednesday, but since then the Owls have managed to draw just two of their last five, losing the other three and in the two away games in that run they have had 4-0 defeats to both Southampton, and this past weekend at Huddersfield Town. Danny Rohl certainly has a job on his hands to turn things around for the Owls, who lie in 23rd position in the Championship after their weekend defeat saw them now eight points (and a hefty goal difference) from safety in the Championship. The FA Cup may provide a welcome distraction for the Owls, who have won this competition three times (Coventry, in contrast, have won it once) but their last win came in 1935. Coventry's sole win came in 1987 in a famous 3-2 extra time victory over Tottenham Hotspur.
