Chris Dobey and Michael van Gerwen will face off in the second round of the 2025 European Darts Championship on Saturday evening. The winner of this match between Hollywood and Mighty Mike will meet either Daryl Gurney or Ross Smith in the quarter-final. Let’s get into the match prediction. 

Chris Dobey surpassed his first-round elimination from last year by pulling off one of the upsets on day one of the European Championship by beating Stephen Bunting 6-3. 

Hollywood delivered five 180s but averaged 105.76, which was lower than Bunting’s 109.20. However, he was better than Bullet on the double (60%) and had a highest checkout of 84. 

With that result, Dobey has improved his record to six wins and four defeats in his last 10 matches, but he has not beaten his upcoming opponent in his last five attempts. 

Meanwhile, Michael van Gerwen faced a tough test in his opener against his compatriot Wessel Nijman, but he managed to secure his spot in the second round with a 6-5 scoreline.

MVG only managed two 180s to Nijman’s five, but he maintained a better three-dart average of 97.83. He hit 37.5% of his attempts at double and posted a highest checkout of 70. 

That was a much-needed victory for the four-time champion following three defeats in a row, and it takes his record back into the green with six wins and four losses in his last 10.
