Chelsea made it to the last sixteen of the Champions League last season, losing to eventual winners Bayern Munich. They begin their 2020/21 campaign with a home match against Sevilla who didn’t need their Europa League win to qualify for this competition. Chelsea have made an inconsistent start to the season. Which side will turn up for this match? The one that could beat Crystal Palace 4-0 or the one that conceded nine goals in two games against Liverpool, West Brom and Southampton? Saturday saw them blow a lead at home to Southampton but at least Timo Werner made an impact with two goals. The number of goals they are conceding is a worry though and three of their last four games have seen both teams score. The Premier League is full of goals this season but now in European competition, it's time for clubs like Chelsea to defend better or pay the price. Home form in the Champions League has seen Chelsea win just one of their last seven games. That was a group win over Lille last season. Their other two home group games last season saw them concede four against Ajax (and still get a draw) and lose 1-0 to Valencia.
Sevilla again won the Europa League last season but their record in this competition isn’t so impressive. Only twice since 1958 have they made it to the quarter finals. This is their first appearance in the competition since the 2017/18 season. Only one of their last six Champions League games have ended in a win for them but four have been drawn. Just one of their last six on the road in this competition has been lost. Both teams have scored in five of their last six away Champions League games. Saturday saw them lose 1-0 away at Granada, that ended their unbeaten start in La Liga. They have already drawn at Barcelona this season and three of their last four away games have seen both teams get on the scoresheet. With both sides not that great at keeping clean sheets, a bet on both teams to score is the suggested wager.

Chelsea have made a steady but inconsistent start to their Premier League campaign. Just two wins from the first five and plenty of goals scored and conceded. This isn't the hardest of Champions League groups and whoever does best in the games between Chelsea and Sevilla should decide the group winners. Chelsea haven't had a great deal of success at home of late in this competition but Sevilla don't always come up with the goods on their travels. They do score goals away from home and Chelsea can't be trusted to keep clean sheets, so go for both teams to score.
