Casper Ruud will face Reilly Opelka in the first match of Day 1 of the 2025 Laver Cup. This is the sixth career meeting between these two. The winner will add a point to the collective for their respective teams. Read on to find our prediction for this match.
Casper Ruud is back again, competing in the Laver Cup for Team Europe. The Norwegian has been part of four previous such tournaments, helping Team Europe win three times. His most recent success was last year.
Ruud, who defeated Opelka in the 2021 edition, has won four consecutive times against the American. He will hope to maintain this streak as he seeks to offset his recent struggles. The world number 12 has compiled a 29-12 record.
Reilly Opelka is part of Team World’s six-man set-up. This is the second time he is participating at the Laver Cup. Opelka wasn’t initially in the first group of selections and has earned his place following the withdrawal of compatriots Tommy Paul and Ben Shelton.
The American arrives for the tournament having lost his two most recent fixtures. He followed up a third-round loss in Cincinnati with an opening-round defeat at the US Open.
Currently placed outside the ATP’s top 60, Opelka has compiled a shaky 28-22 record.
