World number one Carlos Alcaraz will play world number five Taylor Fritz on Day 2 of the 2025 Laver Cup championship in San Francisco, USA. Carlos Alcaraz will play his first Singles match of this year’s event. The Spaniard was in action on Day 1, helping Team Europe move to 3-1 against Team World with a Doubles victory.
Alcaraz partnered with Jakub Mensik to defeat the duo of Alex Michelsen and Fritz in straights. This is Alcaraz’s second appearance at the Laver Cup. He made his debut last year, with one of his victories coming against Fritz on Day 3.
Taylor Fritz is participating in the Laver Cup for a fifth time. The American has been part of Team World’s only two successes in this event. He will hope to inspire a comeback with victory in the final showdown of Day 2.
Fritz has never won against Alacarz. He has lost three times to the Spaniard, more recently in the semi-finals at Wimbledon two months ago. The 28-year-old, who is the highest-ranked player for Team World, has compiled an impressive 43-17 record.
