World number 105 Kamilla Rakhimova and the qualifier Camilla Rosatello will face off in the second round at the Morocco Open. Camilla Rosatello produced the shock of the tournament when she eliminated top seed Yuan Yue in the first round. Making her main draw tour-level debut for the season, Rosatello defeated Yue in three sets. Now she will hope to use the high of that victory to win multiple matches at a tour event for the first time. Rosatello hasn’t succeeded at tour level despite a career spanning more than 10 years. Her best result at a tour tournament was a second-round finish in Palermo last season. The Italian has now won 11 of 20 matches this season and has moved up 15 places to 279th in the live ranking.

Kamilla Rakhimova is more experienced at the top level than Rosatello. She should therefore be confident of securing a win here, especially as she has had more success this year on clay. Rakhimova has lost three more matches than the 12 she has managed so far this year. Half of her wins however have come on clay, the only surface she has compiled a winning record. The Russian, who arrived in Rabat after a quarter-final run in the Parma Challenger, defeated Taylor Townsend in round one. Their duel ended prematurely as Townsend was forced to retire while down two games in the first set. Rakhimova has therefore had more time to prepare for this showdown with Rosatello. The Colombia Open semi-finalist has moved up one place to 104th in the live ranking. A win here will see her advance past the second round for the first time in what is her third appearance here. The winner here will then face seventh seed Elisabetta Cocciaretto in the quarter-finals.
