Hosts Cameroon welcomes Comoros to the Stade d'Olembe in Yaounde for this round of 16 clash in the AFCON Championships. Cameroon had a tricky group to contend with and came through largely unscathed. They won their first two group matches and then had a draw in their last group match which was good enough for them to win the group. Cameroon has a fantastic record at home and have not lost in their last nine home matches. Their last loss at home was against Zambia in January 2021. In their previous two matches against the Comoros they have won one and drawn one. Across all competitions Cameroon have only lost once in their last eight matches with six wins and one draw.Cameroon have the advantage over their visitors as they are at home and are 82 spots above them in the FIFA rankings.
Comoros are the fairytale story of this tournament. They only joined FIFA in 2005 and qualified for their very first international tournament in this edition of AFCON. They were rank outsiders in their group with heavyweight teams like Ghana and Morocco in their group. Comoros improbable task in this match has become almost impossible after a Covid outbreak has decimated their squad. One of the biggest problems is that their two first choice goalkeepers are Covid positive and their remaining keeper in the squad is injured. This will see them fielding an outfield player between the posts. After losing their first two matches nobody gave them a chance but they shocked the world by beating giants Ghana 3-2 and qualified as one of the best finishing third placed teams.Their task in this match will require an even bigger Herculean effort that may be a bridge too far for them.

Comoros must hope that Cameroon struggles with the pressure of being favorites but we feel they are too experienced for this to happen.
