Two losses in three matches mean Burkina Faso’s participation at the African Nations Championship (Chan) is over. They do have a match against Madagascar, who have a good chance to advance to the knockouts. Read on for our prediction.
Burkina Faso opened their campaign with a loss to Tanzania. Facing the co-hosts, defeat was excused, and they did well to beat the Central African Republic 4-2 on matchday two.
However, their fate was sealed after falling 1-0 in the ‘must-win’ game against Mauritania. Burkina Faso can’t finish second as things are and join CAR as the other relegated team.
It is a different story for Madagascar, who are appearing for only the second time at Chan. The island nation shocked all when they went all the way to the semis on their debut in the last edition. They finished third and will be hoping to do better.
First, though, they have to deal with the ramifications at group level. Anything but a win will mean Madagascar also pack their bags. However, with a win, they’ll move ahead of Mauritania, who have finished their matches.
With one win in seven matches, Madagascar aren’t taking into this game a very strong run. Madagascar also lost in their very last match against Burkina Faso, falling 2-1.
