Burkina Faso recovered from their opening Group A loss at the 2021 AFCON to beat Cape Verde 1-0 and will be hoping to finish their group games on a high when they meet Ethiopia. They go to this game with three points, in second place while Ethiopia have no point yet, and are bottom. Burkina Faso will be looking to get a win that confirms their place in the second round and a run of just one loss in the last 10 games should give them confidence that they can do it here. The win over Cape Verde marked the sixth time they kept a clean sheet in the last 10 matches. Burkina Faso missed the last AFCON edition in 2019, and here they will be hoping to go farther than they did in 2017, when they finished third. They have scored first in four of their last five AFCON matches.

Ethiopia are hanging on hope as they go to their final group game. They have two losses in their opening two games and will hope they can win this to try and advance as one of the best third place finishers. Their goals conceded column is however not so impressive and the celebration at returning to the AFCON stage seems destined from an early ending. Ethiopia last participated in this competition in 2013, and there, they faced Burkina Faso, who thrashed them 4-0. While they hope to avoid a repeat, going to this game with one win in seven matches doesn’t reflect so well on the team. They are also winless in their last five AFCON matches and have four straight losses in the competition ahead of this game.
