by Matthew Newman in Championship Predictions
17th-place Bristol City will welcome 7th-place Oxford to Ashton Gate for a Championship contest on Saturday afternoon. The home side is unbeaten on their own turf while their visitors are yet to pick up a point on the road. We have our prediction for the match below.
There have been plenty of goals in the two Bristol City home games so far, nine in total with the 'Robins' beating Millwall 4-3 and picking up a 1-1 draw with Coventry. They will be happy to be back home after back-to-back 0-3 defeats on the road.
It is at the back that City have had most concerns this season. An expected goals against of 1.21 is in reality a full goal higher at 2.2. Most of those have come in the second half, nine of the 11 league goals they have conceded have come after the 54th minute!
Oxford have made a bright start to the season at the Kassam. Wins over Norwich, Preston and Stoke have come at the cost of a single goal conceded. Things have been Tougher away from home with a 1-2 defeat at Blackburn and a 2-3 loss at Coventry. Both of those teams are considerably better than Bristol City, however.
The losing goal in both games came in the final 10 minutes with both of those teams ahead of Bristol City in the league standings. Blackburn sit third and Oxford are the team who have come closest to taking something away from Ewood Park this season.
It is a little surprising then that they are such a big price, especially as Bristol City were beaten 3-0 away at Blackburn in their most recent outing.

Our Bristol City vs Oxford United Prediction
This might look simple on paper, an unbeaten home team against a team without a point on the road but it is far from as cut and dry as that. Both teams have played Coventry this season, City drawing 1-1 at home and Oxford losing 2-3 away to an injury-time winner. Both have played Blackburn at Ewood Park, City losing 0-3 and Oxford losing 1-2 to an 83rd-minute winner.
There is simply no way that Oxford should be 5.0 for this game but we'll go bigger still. Both teams have scored in both Bristol's home games and both Oxford's away so our Bristol City vs Oxford prediction is for Oxford to win and BTTS.
