Botafogo’s push for a top four slot continues this weekend, with a home match against struggling Corinthians. Placed fifth, the hosts arrive for this match on 25 points, while Corinthians are 11th, battling to stay in the Copa Sudamericana positions. Read on for our prediction.

Botafogo had another solid performance last time out in a 1-0 win against Sport Recife. It was a big marker for young coach Davide Ancelotti, who has now led the team to seven points in three league games in charge.

Botafogo’s biggest quality is their defence, and that was their seventh clean sheet in nine league games. In those nine games, they won six. 

Corinthians managed just one win in their last four matches against Botafogo, losing the other three and failing to score in two. This match will have a similar feeling – Botafogo as the favorites, while Corinthians might struggle to even get a goal.

This is well in line with the two sides’ recent performances. Corinthians come into this game off the back of a 0-0 draw with Cruzeiro. That in itself was a big result, considering Cruzeiro’s form.

However, for Corinthians it was a second straight game without scoring. They’ve managed one win only in the last eight matches. Away from home, Corinthians suffered four defeats in the last seven league games and failed to score in four.
