Second placed Benfica can go top of the Portuguese Primeira League if beating top of the table Sporting. They begin the weekend three points behind Sporting who are the only unbeaten side in the table. Benfica have won eight of their ten Primeira League fixtures this season. Their only loss was inflicted by Boavista in late August. They then won their next seven league games before being held to a 1-1 home draw by Casa Pia. Last weekend saw them win 2-0 at Chaves but then lost at Real Sociedad in their Champions League group. Benfica have won three of their four home league games this season, scoring eight and only conceding once. Each of their last four league fixtures have seen under 2.5 goals scored in them.

Sporting only need to avoid defeat to remain top of the Primeira League. They have won nine of their ten league fixtures with the other being a 1-1 draw at Sporting Braga. Since that draw they have won six straight league games. Six of their ten fixtures have been played at home where they have a 100 percent record. On the road, Sporting have won three and drawn one with two of those games having under 2.5 goals scored in them. Midweek went better for them than Benfica's. Sporting beat Rakow 2-1 at home in the Europa League though both of their goals came from the penalty spot.
