The final matchday in the group stages of the CAF Champions League will get underway, with CR Belouizdad playing host to Medeama on Friday afternoon. The hosts are currently in third place in the group standings, while the visitors are bottom of Group D. Belouizdad are on the verge of elimination, three points behind Young Africans in second place. They were also beaten 4-0 by Tanzanian champions in the last match and won the reverse fixture 3-0, which puts them one goal behind on the goal difference in head-to-head matches. Nevertheless, the hosts will want to bow out on a positive note here before returning to domestic competition, where they are currently leading the league table. Meanwhile, Medeama’s fate in this competition was sealed last week when they were beaten 1-0 at home by Al Ahly. That result left them on four points after five CAF Champions League group-stage matches, four points behind the qualification spots. Their only win in this competition, though, came against this opponent back in week two. However, Medeama’s struggles this season have not been confined only to the continental competition. In the First Capital Plus Premier League, they currently sit in eighth place with 25 points after 17 matches, already trailing league leaders Samartex by ten points. In addition, the visitors have only won one of their last five league games and failed to score in three of them. Medeama’s last match ended in a 2-2 draw against the Heart of Lions, extending their winless run in away games to four, including two draws and two losses.
