Aston Villa vs Tottenham Prediction & Betting Tips - Premier League

by Ian John | in Premier League Prediction

Aston Villa host Tottenham Hotspurs on Sunday, kick off 1pm, in what promises to be an intriguing Premier League battle between the teams ranked 4th and 5th in the table respectively. Villa come into the game having won all of their last three Premier League games, while Spurs have won two and lost one, which means that they are now five points behind the Villains, albeit with a game in hand on the teams above and around them in the table. This could well be a decisive game in deciding who gets the fourth guaranteed Champions League qualification spot this season.

Aston Villa - Tottenham: Form Analysis

After a tricky spell of games in January, Aston Villa have returned to much better form in February, even despite an FA Cup exit to Chelsea and a home league defeat to Manchester United. Those two results aside, domestically they have won four of their last five Premier League games. They were held in midweek in the build up to this game. Unai Emery played a number of fringe players away to Ajax, resting key players for this game at the weekend against Spurs, and the game finished 0-0 but in truth that should have little bearing on how this game will go at the weekend between two of the Premier League's most entertaining teams.

Tottenham's recent form at home is excellent with 6 wins and one defeat in their last seven which includes last weekend's 3-1 defeat of Crystal Palace. But on the road it has been a different story, they have won just one of their last six games, drawing three and losing the other two. Goalscoring has not been a problem for Spurs this season, but stopping them going in at the other end certainly has. Despite their poor away form of late they have still lost just twice away from home this season, half the number of times they've been defeated at home, but they have drawn 5 and won 5 of their 12 games on the road, compared to 10 wins from their 14 home games.

Aston Villa & Tottenham Squad Analysis

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery will be without up to five players for the game with Tottenham on Sunday. Long-term absentees Emiliano Buendia, Boubacar Kamara and Tyrone Mings will all continue their rehabilitation from serious knee injuries, with Mings and Buendia scheduled to return at the start of next season at the earliers and Kamara may not be fit to return until November 2024. Jhon Duran is close to full fitness, but may not quite be ready for this game while the club are monitoring the fitness of midfielder Jacob Ramsey who has a foot issue but who could be fit to play on Sunday. Striker Ollie Watkins and midfielder Douglas Luiz have been in outstanding form of late for the Villains, both contributing plenty of goals in the last few matches.

Ange Postecoglou could have some good news by the time Sunday's game with Aston Villa rolls around. Full back Pedro Porro is expected to be ready to return to action after a period on the sidelines while Richarlison, who has been plagued by a knee issue of late, is expected to be fit to start against the Villains. Israeli winger Manor Soloman is still another three weeks away from a return after having to have additional knee surgery, while Fraser Forster and Ryan Sessegnon are longer-term absentees. James Maddison's return to fitness has been the catalyst for some much improved Tottenham performanes of late, especially at home.

Our Aston Villa vs Tottenham Prediction

The data for Aston Villa v Tottenham seems to indicate this is a game in which we will see both team score and goals scored. However, we can also see that Aston Villa's form at the moment is a little more consistent than Spurs, especuially when compared to Tottenham's away form. I can't see Villa being the first team to keep Spurs from scoring in the league this season, but by the same token, the home team should win this game. Our prediction for Aston Villa v Spurs is therefore Villa to win and both teams to score.

Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa) to Score at Any Time

The England and Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins has been in great form for the Villains this season. With 16 goals, he is second only to Erling Haaland in the scoring charts and has scored five goals in his last three Premier League games. Along with Dominic Solanke, he is the most in form English striker in the Premier League at present. Watkins is a solid bet to score a goal in this game as our second prediction on the match.

2 Goals Ahead Early Payout Offer

bet365 2 Goals Ahead Early Payout Offer

One of the worst feelings when placing a football bet is when the team that you have backed has gone into a multiple-goal lead only to be clawed back to a draw or to lose the game in question. This is something that bet365 has rectified for their bettors courtesy of this offer. If the team that you backed takes a two-goal lead your bet will be paid out as a winner. That is any two-goal lead so 2-0, 3-1, 4-2 etc will all be paid out early as a winner if your team is in that position. This is available in 80 different competitions including the major leagues across Europe and can be played on the full-time result market. Singles and multiples are both valid for this offer but you cannot bet on enhanced price markets. As with most promotions, if you cash out a bet in full, the bet will no longer be available for the offer in question. It also cannot be used if you bet on the draw on a game.

Simon Bennett and Dan Robathan will be his assistant referees with Darren Bond the fourth official. Tim Robinson will be the VAR at Stockley Park, assisted by Darren Cann.

Mr Kavanagh has refereed 14 Premier League games already this season, awarding 63 yellow cards and one red. It will be his first game officiating Aston Villa this season, but has taken charge of one Tottenham game previously,  their 4-1 home win over Newcastle United back in December.

He has awarded 7 penalties in those 14 games this season, including two in the recent Luton v Sheffield United game.

In the most recent matches, Aston Villa have had the better of things against Spurs. They have won all the last three matches in the Premier League, including two wins at Tottenham and have four victories in the last six, losing the other two.

However, if you look back over the past 12 years or so, the teams have met 19 times without drawing. Tottenham have a much better record over this period, recording 14 wins to just 5 for the Villains.

Historically Spurs also hold the advantage with 77 wins compared to 60 for Aston Villa with 39 games drawn. They have met each other 173 times in their history since their first game back in 1903.
