Arsenal vs Newcastle Prediction & Betting Tips - Premier League

by Ian John | in Premier League Prediction

Saturday night in the Premier League sees Arsenal face Newcastle United in what is a crucial game for both clubs. Arsenal currently lie third in the table and are five points behind leaders Liverpool, but with this game in hand. Newcastle are currently eighth in the table and cannot drop too many more points if they are harboring any hopes of European football next season. They are seven points adrift of Manchester United in 6th and 10 behind Spurs in 5th. However, they did beat Arsenal 1-0 at St James' Park earlier in the season.

Arsenal - Newcastle: Form Analysis

Arsenal face Newcastle United on Saturday Night in the Premier League knowing that rivals Liverpool have already secured a win over Luton in midweek to move them five points clear of the Gunners. Therefore, Mikel Arteta's team will know nothing less than a win will suffice against Newcastle. After a disappointing performance in midweek in the Champions League, where they went down a 1-0 defeat away to FC Porto, the Gunners will be looking to rediscover their deadly Premier League form of late which has seen them rattle in 25 goals in their last five games, winning them all, including two big away wins in successive weeks - 5-0 at Burnley and 6-0 at West Ham. The Gunners though will be wary of their opponents on Saturday night as their first defeat of the season in the league came in a 1-0 loss away at Newcastle back in November.

Eddie Howe's Newcastle United team have had a somewhat Jekyll and Hyde season, being very strong at home, but somewhat poor on the road, winning just 11 points out of 36 available. Recently, it has been their home form that has deserted them a little, losing to Nottingham Forest and Manchester City in successive games at St James' Park and then following that with scoring draws with Luton (4-4) and Bournemouth (2-2 ). They have won their last two away games, 3-1 at Aston Villa and then a 3-2 win at the City Ground against Nottingham Forest and with the two latest draws at home, it means Eddie Howe's mean are unbeaten in four. Furthermore, there's been plenty of goals in their games with just 2 of their last 13 matches seeing fewer than three goals scored.

Arsenal & Newcastle Squad Analysis

Both Arsenal and Newcastle have a number of injury concerns ahead of their game on Saturday night. For the Gunners, long-term injury absentee Jurrien Timber remains out, while it is extremely doubtful that Oleksandr Zinchenko (calf), Takehiro Tomiyasu (knock) and Gabriel Jesus (knee) will be fit enough to play apart on Saturday. Thomas Partey has returned to training but missed the game with FC Porto, but should be in contention against Newcastle, while Fabio Viera returned after three months out in the defeat to FC Porto in midweek. Mikel Arteta was critical of his sides lack of attacking decisiveness and energy levels in the defeat in Portugal and he could give Jorginho a chance in the team, after the Italian played a key role in the big home win over Liverpool a few weeks back. Emile Smith Rowe is another the manager could consider if he feels the team needs fresh impetus.

Newcastle's injury problems over the course of the season have been well-documented and they still have a number of players unavailable for selection. Goalkeeper Nick Pope remains out and Callum Wilson will be out for around 12 weeks with a pectoral injury. Sandro Tonali is suspended, while Matt Targett and Joelinton both remain sidelined with thigh problems and Elliot Anderson is out with a back issue. Fabian Schar did return to training during the week following sustaining a wrist injury against Bournemouth and Joe Willock and Alexander Isak are both said to be closed to a return for the Magpies. Isak's return would be welcome given how important he has been to Newcastle this season as along with Bruno Guimaraes and Kieran Trippier, he has been one of the Tynesiders most consistent performers.

Arsenal - Newcastle Key Points

  1. Arsenal have the best form in the Premier League over the last five matches, winning them all.
  2. The Gunners have lost just once at home this season and have the third best record at home in the Premier League.
  3. Newcastle are unbeaten in their last four and have won their last two away games but despite that they still are ranked 14th in the division in terms of away form this season.
  4. Newcastle have won just one away game against a team currently in the top half of the Premier League this season. Losing four and drawing two of the other games against top ten teams on the road.
  5. Both teams have scored in none of the last 11 games between Arsenal and Newcastle United.

Our Arsenal vs Newcastle Prediction

In recent times, Arsenal v Newcastle United games have tended to see just one team score. That was the case back in November when Newcastle beat Arsenal 1-0 and despite the Toon Army seeing plenty of goals in their games this season, it is a different story against this talented Arsenal back line with the best defensive record in the league. The Gunners will want to bounce back after their loss to FC Porto in midweek and so our Arsenal v Newcastle prediction here is for Arsenal to win, but both teams not to score.

Arsenal to win and Both Teams to Score - No

Arsenal vs Newcastle - Other Interesting Predictions

Bruno Guimarães (Newcastle United) to be booked

Arsenal are going to have a lot of the ball in midfield in this game and that will attract plenty of tackles from the Newcastle midfielders. Bruno Guimaraes is not afraid to put his foot in and the Brazilian has been booked nine times already this season in the Premier League. With how cleverly Arsenal play a possession game, he is a good option to pick up a booking for a second bet on the game on Saturday night.
