It's been a strange World Cup tournament for Argentina. They were rightfully heavily criticised after being beaten 2-1 by Saudi Arabia. They then went on to beat both Mexico and Poland to win the group. Now they take on surprise qualifiers Australia for a place in the quarter finals. With the winners of this tie facing either the Netherlands or the USA in the last eight, the chances of Argentina making at least the semi-finals are looking good. They are heavily fancied to win this match even if they're not quite firing on all cylinders. This won't be easy though because Australia have won their last two matches. France did put four past them in the group stages but they have tightened up a great deal since then.Limited Offer. Currently at Stake

Argentina - Australia: Form Analysis
Argentina have only one loss in their last 39 internationals. They'd not lost in 36 before taking on Saudi Arabia in their opening game in this World Cup tournament. They lost that match 2-1 but still ended up topping the group. The last two games have both been won to nil. Seven of their last eight internationals have been won and a clean sheet was kept in all those victories. Argentina do take a while to get on the scoresheet. They scored a penalty in the first half of their game against Saudi Arabia but the earliest goal scored since then has been in the 46th minute.
Australia are in the knockout stages of the World Cup for the first time since 2006. On that occasion they lost 1-0 to Italy but only by a 95th minute penalty. It's only the second time that they have made it out of the group stages. They probably weren't thinking of a game in the last 16 when needing to win a penalty shootout against Peru in the play-offs or when conceding four goals against France. Over 90 minutes, Australia have won six of their last eight matches. In their last six games, they have kept five clean sheets and five of those matches saw under 2.5 goals scored.
