Real Madrid will be looking to keep the pressure on the La Liga leaders when they travel to face Alaves on Thursday evening. The hosts are currently in 13th place in the league standings, while the visitors are second. Alaves have laid a good foundation over the first half of their return to the top flight. They have notched up 16 points in 17 games and are three points ahead of the drop zone. However, they were no match for Girona over the weekend, with the league leaders claiming a straightforward 3-0 win at home. With that result, Alaves have now failed to win their last three league games, including two losses and a draw. Notably, 13 of the hosts' 16 points this season have come on their home patch. Alaves are the joint lowest-scoring team in La Liga and are the clear outsiders in this one. 

Meanwhile, Real Madrid have not done much wrong this season but have been playing catchup to Girona for the majority of the first half of the campaign. They are now on 42 points after 17 games and trail the leaders by two points. Los Blancos secured their place in the Round of 16 of the Champions League last week and followed up with a solid 4-1 win against Villareal over the weekend. That result took them to 11 matches unbeaten in the league, including eight wins and three draws. They have only lost one league match this season, which was against Atletico Madrid back in September. Real Madrid won the last match between these sides 3-0 and are on a three-match winning streak against this opponent.
