Ajax Amsterdam will start their charge for the Eredivisie title with a home match against newly promoted side Telstar. The Dutch giants had a poor finish last season, missing out on the title by a point. We have the prediction as they start it all again.
Ajax are definitely coming into this match as the favorites, given their experience against their visitors’. Last season Ajax had the joint most wins for a side playing at home.
They posted 13 victories out of 17 matches. Only the champions, PSV, matched that. They were also second in away wins, but a shaky finish cost them the league. In their two cup matches against Telstar, Ajax won and will seek to extend that here.
Telstar finished the regular season in the Dutch second tier in seventh spot. A superb performance in the playoffs ensured they get a first taste of the topflight. To start them off is an acid test, facing one of the Dutch football giants.
There won’t be time to acclimatize, but a good run in preseason will offer the right preparation. Telstar played nine preseason friendly matches and only lost once.
Getting right into the deep end, Telstar will want to do better defensively, having conceded in each of their last three competitive matches. They also let in six goals in their two matches against Ajax.
