by Ian John in Football Predictions
Sunday will see the League Two Playoff Final at Wembley Stadium as AFC Wimbledon face Walsall in the match that decides who joins Port Vale, Bradford City and Doncaster Rovers in League One next season. Will our match prediction favour The Dons or The Saddlers in what promises to be a very even contest between the two?
AFC Wimbledon finished fifth in the table with 73 points from their 46 games, yet they only managed one win in April. Their success has been built on by far the best defensive record in the division, with just 35 goals conceded in the league and playoffs. Ten goals fewer than the next best defensive record in League Two.
It was a rollercoaster of a season for Walsall who stormed to the top of the table in February, but when Nathan Lowe (who had scored 15 goals in 21 games for Walsall) was recalled by Stoke, the Saddler struggles began. A 12-point lead fell away and a 13-game run without a win followed. A 1-0 win over Crewe on the final day was enough to earn a playoff spot only. However, the Saddler do boast the best attack in League Two having scored 75 goals in the regular season and four more in the playoffs.

AFC Wimbledon - Walsall: Form Analysis
Both AFC Wimbledon and Walsall have had very similar seasons in many respects. Both had good long runs of great results, but also a run of poor, inconsistent form near the end of the season which almost scuppered their promotion hopes. Both though won on the final day of the season and also both legs of their playoff semi-final.
AFC Wimbledon's rock-solid defence played a key role in their 2-0 aggregate win over Notts County. A fine defensive effort in the first leg, combined with Riley Harbottle's goal, saw the Dons take a 1-0 lead into the second leg at Plough Lane. There they kept a clean sheet once again. Josh Neufville's early strike enough to win that game by another 1-0 scoreline.
The Wombles come into the playoffs on the back of three successive wins.
It's a similar story for Walsall who suffered an awful run of 13 games without a win from the 25th Feb to drop from top of the table into the playoffs. They arrested that slide on the final day, a 1-0 win over Crewe enough only to cement a place in the playoffs.
They followed that with a fine 4-1 aggregate win over Chesterfield in the playoffs. Winning the away leg 2-0 and then confirming their place in the final with a 2-1 home victory in a match which saw all the goals scored late in the game. The Sadlers also come into this game on the back of three wins in a row.

AFC Wimbledon & Walsall Squad Analysis
Wimbledon boss Johnnie Jackson will be without defensive midfielder Sam Hutchinson due to an injury, but otherwise the Dons boss should have a full-strength squad to pick from for the Playoff Final.
Striker Matty Stevens has had a fantastic campaign, netting 17 goals for the Dons.
Jackson may well be tempted to keep faith with his starting XI that beat Notts County over two legs in the semi-final, meaning a 3-4-3 formation that features Myles Hippolyte and James Tilley playing as wingers in the Wombles front three along with Stevens.
Walsall boss Matt Sadler has some thinking to do about his team selection after some fantastic contributions from substitutes in their playoff second-leg win over Chesterfield.
Subs Charlie Lakin and Levi Amantchi scored the goals in that 2-1 victory.
Midfielder Jack Earing will miss out through injury, but right-back Connor Barrett is available after suspension, he could come in to replace Nathan Asiimwe.

Our AFC Wimbledon vs Walsall Prediction
Our prediction for the AFC Wimbledon vs. Walsall League Two Playoff Final is: Walsall wins the match.
We have seldom come across a game in which the data for both teams is so similar. Both Wimbledon and Walsall have won their last three, have the best scoring (Walsall) and defending (Wimbledon) records in League Two, and both struggled for form up until their final league game.
That is repeated across several other factors. However, Walsall concede fewer goals away from the Bescot, whereas Wimbledon are considerably better when playing at home. We have plumped for Walsall to squeeze a narrow victory.
AFC Wimbledon vs Walsall - Other Interesting Predictions
Taylor Allen (Walsall) to score at any time.
In a game which is likely to be incredibly tight, it may well take a set piece or a penalty to decide matters. Taylor Allen may be a defender, but he is Walsall's penalty taker and he has netted 11 goals this season, behind only Jamille Matt (12) and the now-departed Nathan Lowe (15).
Not only is Allen a threat from set pieces, his ability in the air means that he can be a useful weapon from corners and indirect free-kicks. As such, he is a good pick, at great value odds, to score at any time.
