Mainz have all to play for when they host Borussia Dortmund in their final Bundesliga home game this Saturday. Dortmund have their season’s ambitions well secured but Mainz, placed 16th remain in the chase for survival. At 29 points, Mainz sit in the relegation playoff position. A win here could not only see them rise from their current position, it would also mean they avoid automatic relegation. Borussia Dortmund come here on a high, having survived a barrage of attacks against PSG, to reach the Champions League final. Their success so far on the continental scene has boosted German football and they’ll be confident here. Despite everything, this game doesn’t mean much for Dortmund. As far as domestic action is concerned, they have all they can fight for, with their Champions League place assured. It will therefore not be a surprise to see fringe players sent out of this game. The goal conceded there meant they've failed to keep a clean sheet in five straight league matches. It was also the eighth of their last 11 matches in which both sides scored. The 40 goals Dortmund have let in in the league do not point to a side doing well defensively. That may not matter for now though, as their most important game will be in the Champions League final.
