Augsburg have picked up good momentum and will be looking to extend it to champions Bayern Munich when they travel to the Allianz Arena in their next league match. Hosts Bayern are still top of the league standings, with 66 points, while Augsburg are 13th, on 32 points. Bayern are coming from a tough outing away in Spain in the Champions League where they suffered a 1-0 loss to Villarreal and will want to return to winning ways here. Once again, it was their defending that came out with a lot of questions and here, they go into this game with just one clean sheet in the last five matches and two in 12. They rarely fail to score and that’s why the loss to Villarreal should be a big concern. Both sides have scored in seven of their last 10 matches, and they’ve suffered two losses in that period. The 4-0 win over Union Berlin in their last home league match marked the first time they kept a clean sheet at home in five league matches.

Augsburg are coming from yet another win as their rise continues; they beat Mainz 2-1 in a Wednesday league game, for their third victory in five matches. That win opened up a six-point gap from the relegation zone and they can afford to relax and play their game as the pressure eases. Augsburg have been on a good scoring run, netting in each of their last 11 matches and lately they’ve improved on that, scoring at least two goals in each of the last three matches. They will be aware of Bayern’s deficiencies in defence and look to take advantage. However, they haven’t matched this with their defending, having managed just three clean sheets in the last 10 matches. Both teams have scored in seven of Augsburg’s last 10 matches. It hasn’t been great for Augsburg on the road though; in their last five away matches, they’ve managed just one clean sheet and win; the rest have all ended in defeats, with Augsburg conceding two or more goals.
