Reds Agree Shock Deal for Barcelona Captain
Liverpool have sprung one of the summer’s biggest transfer surprises by reaching an agreement with Barcelona for the loan signing of Ronald Araujo ahead of the 2026-27 Premier League season.
According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, the Reds and Blaugrana have reached agreement on the key aspects of the deal, with only the final paperwork left to complete, which is expected to be signed within the next 24 hours.
The Uruguayan defender will initially arrive on Merseyside on a loan deal, with the agreement also including an option for Liverpool to make the move permanent!
Araujo’s future at Camp Nou has been the subject of speculation for some time. After slipping down Hansi Flick’s pecking order, the defender looked likely to fight for his place back, but the prospect of regular football at Anfield now appears to have influenced his decision.
The agreement offers Liverpool the best of both worlds: an experienced defensive addition now, while retaining flexibility over a permanent move. The Reds can evaluate Araujo over the course of the season before deciding whether to exercise their purchase option next term.
Araujo’s current contract with the Catalan giants runs until the summer of 2031. He is valued in the region of £22m and is expected to receive around £300,000 per week in wages once the move to Merseyside is finalised.
Man United Receive Transfer Boost For Hall Alternative
Manchester United have reportedly been handed fresh encouragement in their pursuit of Racing Santander defender Jorge Salinas after Newcastle rejected their approach for Lewis Hall earlier this week.
The Red Devils have held a long-standing interest in Hall and remain keen on bringing him to Old Trafford to add competition for Luke Shaw at left-back!
However, Sky Sports report that the Magpies have made it clear to Man United that the 21-year-old England international is not available for transfer this summer, especially after already losing Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali, and with Bruno Guimaraes on the cusp of an exit.
Earlier this week, reports revealed that United scouts had identified Racing Santander’s Jorge Salinas as a potential alternative for Hall, and they were impressed by the teenager’s performances at the Under-19 European Championship.
Interest in the 19-year-old has prompted Racing sporting director Chema Aragon to clarify the club’s position: Salinas can leave this summer, but only if his €16m (£13.7m) release clause is met. It is understood that Barca are also monitoring the youngster at present.
