Two clubs that have spent their entire existence in the shadow of richer, louder neighbours now stand 90 minutes from immortality. Crystal Palace and Rayo Vallecano meet tonight in the UEFA Conference League final, and neither has ever lifted a major European trophy. One walks out of Leipzig as champions. The other walks out with nothing but painful memories.

Glasner's Farewell Tour Ends in Leipzig

This isn't just a final for Crystal Palace. It's goodbye for the gaffer.

Oliver Glasner confirmed back in January that he's leaving Selhurst Park when the season ends. He quietly informed chairman Steve Parish over dinner during the October international break of his refusal to sign a new deal.

The man who delivered Palace their first-ever FA Cup last season now has one night to add a European trophy to his legacy.

And what a chaotic ride it's been. Palace's domestic form cratered mid-season,recording just one win in 15 league games at one point. Fans called for his head during a drab draw against Zrinjski Mostar in the knockout playoffs. They finished 15th in the Premier League. They lost 2-1 to Arsenal on the final day while the Gunners celebrated the title on Palace's own pitch.

But in Europe? A different animal entirely. Eight wins from 14 Conference League matches, which is a record for any club in their debut continental season. His Eagles side also just earned a 3-1 aggregate demolition of Shakhtar Donetsk in the semis.

Glasner has somehow built a squad that saves its best for the biggest nights, and tonight is the biggest they've ever had. Will the claim glory? Find out in our Crystal Palace vs Rayo Vallecano prediction.

That combined total of 38 European matches is the fewest between two finalists since the 1964-65 Cup Winners' Cup. This is uncharted territory for both clubs.

Rayo Vallecano: Vallecas Goes to War

If Palace's story is about a departing manager chasing glory, Rayo's is about an entire identity being validated on the continental stage.

Rayo Vallecano is the working-class heartbeat of Madrid. While Real and Atlético hoard Champions League trophies, Rayo have been scrapping for survival in La Liga's middle tier for decades.

Their stadium, the Estadio de Vallecas, holds barely 14,000.

Their fans are famous for political activism as much as football passion. They are, in every sense, the anti-establishment club. And yet here they are.

Head coach Iñigo Pérez has guided them past Strasbourg in the semis and through a Conference League campaign built on defensive discipline and devastating counter-attacks.

Palace are undoubtedly the favourites, but Rayo have all the tools to trap the Eagle. Crystal’s backline will have the likes of Alemao to put up with. Strasbourg underestimated Rayo. They paid the price with two 1-0 defeats, of which Alemao scored both goals in both legs, marking goals in five of his last eight games.
