The Santiago Bernabéu takes centre stage on Tuesday evening, when Real Madrid host Inter Milan in the marquee matchup of Matchday 1 in the 2026-27 Champions League.
Few UCL fixtures this week carry as much history as this one, with José Mourinho returning to the Madrid dugout to face the Italian club he famously guided to a historic treble in 2010, where current Inter boss Cristian Chivu was part of the Special One’s starting XI in that triumph.

However, following the high-profile departures of Morgan Rogers, Emiliano Martínez, Ollie Watkins, and Ezri Konsa, Unai Emery’s side have yet to find their rhythm this season, still winless after their first three league games, while failing to score a single goal in any of those matches.

Pep Guardiola was unable to lead Manchester City beyond the Round of 16 last season, but his successor Enzo Maresca has received some major reinforcements this term, and the Citizens are among the favourites to go all the way to the title in 2026-27.
Both teams have made stunning starts to their domestic campaigns. City currently sit atop the Premier League standings with a perfect three wins from three games, scoring seven goals while conceding just twice. Porto, meanwhile, are the frontrunners in Liga Portugal with five wins in five, scoring 11 goals and conceding only once.

The Reds face Atlético Madrid tonight, and they have been the superior team in this contest. The Merseysiders have won each of their last three UCL matches against Diego Simeone’s team, including in the League Phase at Anfield last season, thanks to a Virgil van Dijk header in stoppage time.
After the departure of Rúben Amorim, Michael Carrick oversaw a sensational second half of the season in 2025-26, which culminated in Manchester United finishing third in the EPL and earning a return to the Champions League for the first time since 2023-24, when they failed to get beyond the group stage.
Of the 36 teams in action this week, Man United have the fourth-best win probability (78%), only behind PSG (83.6%), Barcelona (81.1%), and Bayern Munich (78.9%)!
